Day 262 July 3 33 mi Upper Chesapeake Bay to C & D Canal

Our departure day.....do we leave....there is no room tonight at Rock Hall Landing because their 4th of July weekend begins and we do not have a reservation.  Weather report is fair....cloudy....some light rain but no thunderstorms until the usual 2PM.  Nanseann is gone by 7:15AM

Rock Hall MD

We are in the upper Chesapeake with fresh water and no stinging Nettles.  You can see the rain on the western shore but the eastern shore is clear.

Our route is along the Eastern Shore

Range Lights

We are seeing something new.....floats with flags and then close by another float.  They are marking something and we see the Crabbers out working their crab traps and these floats.....Well, they are Trot Lines......The floats are tied together and the Crabbers work these lines.....they have tied numerous pieces of bait to the line and they carefully pull the line up....pluck the crab holding onto the bait and put the line back into the water.  This method of crabbing is particularly popular on the Eastern Shore.
