Day 358 July 16 22 mi Buckhorn Yacht Harbor Buckhorn ON

Port engine started so we departed Lakefield Marina at 8AM and it was 67 degrees on the bridge....
The stretch from Lakefield  through Katchewanooka Lake to Lower Buckhorn Lake is where we start seeing the rugged granite of the Canadian Shield and is one of the most beautiful sections of the waterway.....So here we go

Once known to the Indians as "happy lands and bright waters"

Right by their cottage

Lots of cottages

Follow the buoys carefully....next to our port side

Busy place

Lock 27 Young's Point Mile 104.5 with a 7 foot lift

Patrick Robinson was born in 1852, involved with Steamboats on Stony Lake.
His house still stands near the lock and is now the home of Lockside Trading Company.  I'm sure he was related to the Captain!!!!

Busy place compared to many of the lock walls

Clear Lake....obstacle free all the way to Big Island

Lots of resorts

When we enter Stony Lake we pass through Hells Gate

From here we see cottages on small rocky islands

wild, rocky landscapes

more characteristic of Georgian Bay

Follow the buoys and go SLOW

St. Peters-on-the-Rock Anglican Church

This picturesque little church was built in 1914 and still conducts services each Sunday in July and August

Right on the water

Pink Granite

Just something else

Burleigh Falls

Lock 28 Burleigh Falls Mile 113 with a 24 foot lift

There is no longer a Lock 29...The double lock was turned into a single lock in 1968

Come on and don't hit us

There he goes....and he is a beginner

This is the busiest stretch on the Waterway

Entrance to Lovesick Lake

According to a legend, an Indian boy fell in love with a redheaded Irish girl.
He was rejected and heartbroken and nearly died of lovesickness

The lake is a rocky-bottomed, island-studded little gem less than 2 miles long

Lock 30  Lovesick Mile 114.8 with a 4 foot lift

Unusual lock...lock attendants take boats to work

The Lock is situated on an island amid a dam and four spillways that separate Lovesick and Lower Buckhorn Lakes

Today we lock through with a rental houseboat....give him room

Lock 30 is home to raccoons and black bear

Enjoying the sunshine

Buckhorn is the halfway point on the Trent-Severn Waterway

Lock 31 Buckhorn Mile 120.7 with a 11 foot lift

The town of Buckhorn is around the lock

Buckhorn Yacht Harbor Marina

Topping off the diesel....3.78 liters to the US gallon

We have port engine problems again....wouldn't start after Lock 28....  When we got it started we just left it on in the locks (with their permission) until Buckhorn Yacht Harbor Marina.  The marina is where our mechanic Ralph works and where Peter, the owner, has been helping us....so find us a slip....send Ralph over to start looking again and cool out...

I'm relaxed

Haven't been in a covered slip since Green Turtle Bay Marina

Quite Nice

Win has died down.....and Ralph will be back at 8AM
