Day 217 May 19 50 mi Barefoot Landing Marina Myrtle Beach SC

Light rain this morning but the day is clearing so it's time to move on up the waterway.

Neighbors on the Front Wall...boat say Boise ID

9:35 AM departure.....as we were coming out of Sampit River to Winyah Bay we heard someone calling us.....and low and behold it was Proud Lady, Bill and Joy from KY Lake....We haven't seen them since Dog River.  They are waiting for parts for their boat.  Great seeing them!!!

Proud Lady

We cruise the Waccamaw River today to Myrtle Beach.  Once we are under the Ocean Highway Bridge civilization vanishes.  Lots of brown water and marshes on port and the old rice plantations on starboard

The homes are big and How do you get there

The Waccamaw River, deep to its wooded banks, is possibly the most scenic part of the ICW route

The houseboat says SC Public Schools....is it a schoolbus?

Wacca Wache Marina with Boonedocks River Grill

Shrimpers moving down the river

Learned something today.....Murrells Inlet does not connect with the ICW and I wanted to stop for seafood.  We really like this area and would visit when we were in Myrtle Beach.

When we arrive at Enterprise Landing we have traveled 28 miles on the Waccamaw River.  This has been a beautiful day.....just us and this ole river.....and it's Sunday.

But life changes at this point.....we have continuous new shoreside development between here and Barefoot Landing on both sides of the ICW.  We have wall-to-wall boats, jet skies and people and everyone likes to go "fast".  Wake has no meaning for the next 22 miles.  We are in the cut known as Pine Island Cut.  The worst stretch is known as Rock Pile so the Captain goes slow and keeps a sharp watch for rock ledges and people who need to take a "boat safety" class.

Socastee Swing Bridge...11 foot...Opens on Demand

Grandparents are watching this group

Neat homes line the waterway

As I said...... It's Sunday

Seaboard Coast Line RR Bridge

Yard in bloom

New Development....small lots

Marina at Grande Dunes

Bridge matches the complex

$$$$ district

And then someone on a wave runner

More beautiful homes

Calabash Seafood

This group has had too much "sauce"...one about fell off the boat

We make it to Barefoot Landing Marina for the night and are met by two great friends.....Betty and AB.  They live in Myrtle Beach but are getting ready to leave for their "summer" home in Montana.  Cracker Barrel close by so the Captain can have a plate full of veggies.  Everyone is happy!!!

  1. To answer your question: That "school bus" houseboat transports the children that live on Sandy Island to the schools on the mainland. YES it IS a School bus boat!
