Day 216 May 18 67 mi Harborwalk Marina Georgetown SC

What a beautiful morning.....there is no wind, very little current....St Johns Yacht Harbor is pleasant with many live aboards.

Very nice Sunrise

We had a flood tide which runs against us when we came through Elliott Cut this morning

We remembered walking the harbor a few years ago

It takes your breath away

Back into the ICW at Sullivan Island...shoaling and flat water

From 1931 to the early '60s, Little Goat Island's only inhabitants were Henry "Goat Man" Holloway, his wife, Blanche, and a herd of goats.  For more than 30 years, they lived on the island as hermits and, according to legend, ate what the land and sea provided

The Isle of Palm was totally flattened by Hurricane Hugo in 1989...so everything we saw here was built from scratch since then

Think they did a beautiful job

We cross Copahee Sound and civilization vanishes.  We are on a 35 mile straight dredged cut with vash marshlands to the east and South Carolina Horseflies.  Saddi and the Captain are having a "SC Fly Destruction War" against them.  They like to bite!!!  We cross South Santee River into the Fourmile Creek Canal and across North Santee River.  Here we enter Estherville Minim Creek Canal and stay on this until Winyah Bay.

Marshes to the East

The ocean is somewhere over there

This is what you see

We are into Georgetown tonight....the third oldest city in South Carolina.  During the boom years of indigo and rice, Georgetown developed into a town with beautiful colonial architecture, much of which still stands today.  Harborwalk Marina is downtown and we can walk around town.
