Day 196 Apr 28 51 mi to New Smyrna Beach Marina New Smyrna Beach FL

Early to rise....ready to depart at 8:20AM...  A little problem with the coffee pot...it didn't want to cooperate.

Good-bye Cocoa

Allie our navigator

Jamie

On our starboard is Merritt Island which separates the ICW from the Atlantic Ocean.  But Merritt Island has the Banana River on its starboard and the Indian River on its Port.  The entire region to the east is known as Spaceport, USA.  You can cruise the Banana River but you have lots of restrictions.  The ICW continues to follow its track on the Indian River.   We no longer see houses on Merritt Island.....just NASA

Dinghy lines didn't hold....read the instructions

Is she on the Titantic

Pull up the anchor and the windless works

NASA Power Plant

The Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center was completed in 1965. Each stripe on its American flag logo used 6,000 gallons of paint. The building has the largest doors in the world.

Know you can't see the stripes but this is as close as we can get

NASA Bridge...removing something

Interesting shot..doesn't take much

Titusville

NASA railroad bridge...7 foot...always up

We can STILL see Kennedy Space Center in the distance....still government land...and the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge but can't get close enough to see the wildlife.  Lots of people on the water as it is a weekend.
Haulover Canal is where you cross the Indian River to Mosquito Lagoon  We have been running the Indian River for some 100 nautical miles.  The first canal was hand dug by the slaves of a local citrus grower and was only 3 feet deep.  The canal was 0.4 miles long.  In 1950s the Army Corp came in with dynamite, blasting the coquina rock layer to its present depth.

Great place to find Manatees

Lots of people and manatees today

Mosquito Lagoon......well you have a barrier island on starboard and a barrier island on port.  It is very shallow and you follow a channel for about 12 miles.  Manatees feed on the sea grass and we see dolphins but none run with us.  Wind has picked up....so we have a chop chop chop....

Who says there isn't civilization... RV Fish Camp

And people playing in the water

Oh Yes!!!! and Crab Pots!!!!

Many homes on the port side

New Smyrna Beach area

As we arrived at New Smyrna Beach Marina the wind was blowing about 20 knots and the current was testing the Captain and we had a stern docking so Miss Saddi could get off the boat.......All hands on deck!!!!
No time for camera shots....let's get this boat in the dock.  OK now let's get Saddi to green grass.
Now the story on the rental car that was suppose to be in the parking lot.....Sunday....car rentals are not open....NO CAR.....long story short...they had to call a friend who lived in Ormond to come get them....take them to the Daytona Airport to get a car to drive back to Ocala.  Oh Me!!!!

Final note:  Allie's softball team won the championship Friday night and they are having a VICTORY party Monday evening and you know she wants to be there....Good going Allie...your Aunt Beth would be proud of you

We are glad you came and we hope you will come back.....Great Grandma/Grandaddy fix!!!!
