Day 194 Apr 26 68 mi Cocoa Village Marina Cocoa FL

Departure Day...8:20AM....full of diesel and we need a loan.....who wants to help us?????

Harbortown Marina has a Ship Yard...lots of Sailboats

Harbortown Marina is 5-Star

This is Old Florida

I like this

Oceanographic Research Institution

Indian River very wide...but as you see very shallow

We leave the Treasure Coast once we pass Vero Beach.  This region is so boater-friendly many boaters have trouble leaving.  Vero Beach is known as Velcro Beach!!!!

Power Plant in Vero Beach...may have work Steve

Golf Course has a peninsula...bet I could hit the water!

We leave Treasure Coast now and will travel the Space Coast named for NASA's presence at Cape Canaveral.  There are no high-rise condos......it's like being on the river system again.....land on port and the starboard lined with homes.  The Indian River is over a mile wide in many parts and Yes...Captain...stay in the ICW channel or you will find skinny water.

Indian River Shores....Bouganvillas

These homes are built on connecting islands

Only small boats

Your own beach

trimmed Mangroves to protect the shoreline

The Point at Indian River Shores

Jones Fruit Dock

First homes on Port

Complex at Wabasso Beach

Looks like a baby Osprey

Hold On...7 speedboats passed us and 3 sailboats w/o manners

In 1903 President Roosevelt set aside Pelican Island as the nation's first "national wildlife refuge."  From tiny Pelican Island, the National Wildlife Refuge system is now the world's largest network of managed wildlife lands, spanning over 500 refuges and protecting 94 million acres.  Between Biscayne Bay and Hampton Roads the ICW transits through 12 National Wildlife Refuges.

The demand for plumes in ladies' hats put the pelicans in danger

Sebastian Inlet area...Boat on sand bar...middle of river

Then you see lady, child (w/o life jacket) and dog walking in the middle of the river

Sebastian Marinas

Cracker House built in 1913 from a mail order catalog
