Day 427 September 23 108 mi Cumberland Towhead Anchorage Cumberland River

We have a 6:15 AM departure and it is 51 degrees on the bridge...48.8 miles to go on the Mississippi River....
Last Date is moving on....they need to get to Florida......Just Us port engine won't start so they will go slow and try and solve their problem.....Snailmail will run with them......Nanseann, Freedom and Pura Vida are off and running......

Can see where the Mississippi ends and the Ohio starts


It is amazing...you see the brown....you see the blue

We are glad to be off the Mississippi

We have about 60 miles of the Ohio River to travel with two locks and dams.  Red markers are on starboard (LDB) and will now be on our right as we are going upstream.  The Ohio River is wide and not as deep as the Mississippi.  It isn't muddy with whirlpools.

The new Olmsted lock is currently under construction


Projected completion date has been moved to "indefinite"


But will replace Lock 53 and Lock 52 someday


Today The Queen of Mississippi is coming downstream

We have watched this project for 12 years now


Lock and Dam 53....wickets are down...sail on by today

Lock and Dam 52.....wickets are up....will have to wait for a barge


Hour plus wait...not bad as some have waited over 4 hours


Portside tie....have two 50-foot lines bow and stern
Lockmaster will loop your line around a fixed buoy and pass it back to you


Then it took us an hour in the lock

We watch the Ohio River from the banks....nice view from the water

Freedom is headed to the Cuba Towhead for the night


Pura Vida and Nanseann headed to Cumberland Towhead tonight
