In 1609 Henry Hudson sailed up the river to Albany. He was looking for a route to the Pacific Ocean and Asia. He had to turn the 122-ton Half Moon around when the river became too shallow.
In 1686 the British granted Albany's founding charter as a city, making it the second-oldest chartered city in the US. It still operates under its original charter.

The Taxi takes us to Avis Rentals and we are off for the day......We know the New York State Museum is open on Saturday and is highly recommended. Through historic artifacts, full-size dioramas, the New York State Museum showcases the history of the Empire State from prehistoric times to the present. It is the largest museum of its kind in the country.
Parking is free today
Walking up to the museum and the Empire State Plaza
The first floor of the museum is divided into sections. The museum is free but they like donations and recommend a family donation of $10. The newest permanent gallery, The World Trade Center: Rescue, Recovery, Response, was the first major museum exhibit of artifacts from the 9/11 terrirust attacks. It documents the 24-hour aftermath of the disaster.

The Empire State Plaza was the brainchild of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller at a cost of more than $1-billion. The plaza was completed in 1978 and covers 98-acres. The office buildings, quarter-mile-long underground concourse, and outdoor spaces that comprise the plaza are home to the greatest collection of modern American art in any single public site that is not a museum.
The Plaza is full of vendors and activities this weekend
