Seafood packing and boatbuilding once supported the local economy, but now tourism is Solomons Island mainstay. Less than 1 1/2 miles long, the town has a single two-lane road traveling its entire length. At the northern end sits the Calvert Marine Museum and on the southern end of town is the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory run by the University of Maryland. Inbetween these two points you find marinas and boats....most being sailboats and lots of people.
