Day 235 June 6 Elizabeth Dock Dismal Swamp Deep Creek VA

Well we like it here.....invited to the Lock Tender's office for coffee, Danish and fresh fruit at 8AM before he locks us thru....Pretty nice

Robert and the Crew

Robert has been lock tender for 18 years

We need to get Saddi to Hampton to see a Vet.....she has a urinary tract infection....and doesn't feel well.  We ask Robert if Deep Creek has a Vet and "yes" and he will take Saddi to his Vet.  Well that saves renting a car in Hampton.  Plus.....Tropical Storm Andrea is on our heels and we need to be in a safe place.  Since we are in the Lock area we are in one of the safest places to ride out the storm.  We will have no storm surge because they control the water in the Dismal Swamp Canal; we have no reservation in Hampton and couldn't get into a marina in Norfolk because of the Harborfest this weekend.  The Nanseann stays at the dock while the other boats head out.

Mike and Sue coming into the lock

They are ready to lock thru with an 8 foot drop

Gene and Betty coming into the lock

Bill ends up taking us to the Vet......in his new car......Yes, Saddi does have a urinary tract infection and maybe a stress-induced colitis....She even got some Crananidin Tablets.....Let's just say $370 later we are back at the boat with all kinds of medicine to give her.
Think this was a good move as Florida is getting hammered.  The storm is moving fast and we think it will be thru Norfolk tomorrow evening.
Dinner on the boat

Friday morning.....reports show Andrea is in NC and headed out way.  We are told Elizabeth River could have 40 MPH winds.....not for us...

They come thru the lock...must get to Norfolk for Harbor Festival
