Day 146-152 Mar 9-15 Bluff House Green Turtle Cay Bahamas

Green Turtle Cay is 3 miles long, 1.5 miles wide and has two sounds to come into. It got its name from the abundance of Green Turtles that could be found on the island. We are in White Sound staying at the Bluff House Resort and Yacht Club.  It sits atop an 80-foot hill.  We are on a T dock starboard side and with the 3 foot tides have been able to get Saddi off the boat mid-ship or the aft deck.  The Bluff House is under new management and one neat feature is that what you pay for dockage can be applied to your dinner or bar bill which is great.  We got the first 100 gallons of water free but after that is is 20 cents a gallon.  Electricity by kwh.  We are paying 50 cents per foot for our dock because we are members of the Marsh Harbor Yacht Club.  Thanks George for telling us about the Yacht Club.

Going to be a pretty day

Tim, Janice, Coach and Wendy are renting a villa that over looks White Sound and has a screened-in porch that Saddi loves to visit.

The Villa overlooking the Marina

The other marina in White Sound is Green Turtle Club and Marina.  It is just across from us and has been here for years.  The Green Turtle Club has a unique history.  Originally an old wooden boathouse, it was converted into a yacht club style pub and became the cornerstone for an international reputation.

Not sure we could get Saddi off the boat

Beach Bar Cafe

The first act of business is to rent golf carts so that we can get around.  Golf carts and bicycles are the usual mode of transport due to the narrow size of the island.  I'm not sure how I'm going to tell this adventure but just know we are having fun and it will continue until the weather calms down.

Keep LEFT or you will get run over

The Atlantic Ocean known as the Beach Road runs along our route to New Plymouth.  The wave action plus the colors are just breath taking.

A quick look

About 20-25 kts out there

New Plymouth with its pastel painted houses, picket fences and stone walls is quaint and picturesque.  It was founded in 1783.  Most of the 500 or so residents can trace their roots back to the Loyalists that first settled here over two centuries ago.  You have a narrow cement one-way road to follow and mostly you just see golf carts or bicycles

Green Turtle Cay is a stopover-point for southbound vessels during periods of raging seas in the Whale Cay Passage.  Well....we have been having  raging seas and have not be able to go out by boat.  Way too many herds of Sheep and big Elephant herds out stirring up the Sea of Abcos.  But today the winds have calmed down and Captains Coach and Tim have rented a Boston Whaler...20-foot....175 on the back....The game plan is to go to lunch and to Fiddler Cay.
